This is how it works: on your PC running FSX a very light program must be installed (source code available here). Start this program after FSX is started and specific FSX data is available for external devices (like your iPad). Thanks to Microsoft's Simconnect interface. It's all for free.
Download and install the FSXMApperHDServer.

(By the way, this piece of software is open source, you can use and modify it to your own needs!)After install your have a new desktop icon:
Start FSXMapperHDServer and write down the given IP address and port number. You need the IP address and port number in the App.
Fire up the FSXMapperHD App, fill in correct IP address and port number and connect to FSX! That's all, have fun flying.
No, this App is available on iPad and iPad mini only. Maybe in the future this App will be universal.
I have FSX running on a 32 bits system running Windows 7 with all available updates. It runs fine. I also installed SP1 and SP2 for FSX (this is important). I tested my App on iPad generation 1 and the new iPad retina.
